Dutro Ford Lincoln Nissan of downtown Zanesville is more than just an automotive dealership. The site, which spans two city blocks and sits directly adjacent to the Muskingum River, was totally cleared and redesigned with the community in mind. The site was leveled and an elevated pad was poured so the building could be perched on the river edge. A park-like terraced plaza with a fountain (that you can park a car on top of) replaced an old corner parking lot, and welcomes you into Dutro’s two-story showroom with full-height interior glass walls and railings. On the other side of the site, the showroom building opens toward the new service building, which features high-speed reception doors and radiant in-slab heating. While the interiors of both buildings were designed with Ford, Lincoln, and Nissan elements, the non-prototypical building envelope was designed specifically for this site and helped to create a new gateway into downtown Zanesville.
